Grants are awarded based on demonstrated financial need. They don't need to be repaid.
All grants have different eligibility requirements. Eligibility for need-based grants is determined using federal or state formulas and the information provided on your FAFSA, which must be completed in order to qualify for the following programs:
For students who plan to complete or are completing coursework necessary to begin a career in teaching in specified high need fields
Must be repaid as a Direct Unsubsidized loan if student does not teach at least 4 years within 8 years of completing program as a teacher in a school that serves students from low income families, in a specified subject area (science, math, foreign language, bilingual education, special education or other high need area)
The Bright Flight is awarded to students earning an ACT or SAT composite score in the top 5% of all test taking Missouri residents.

Who is Eligible?
Be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident and a Missouri resident
Have a composite score on the ACT or SAT in the top 5 percent of all Missouri residents taking those tests
Enroll as a first-time student and receive the scholarship in the academic year immediately following high school graduation
Be enrolled full-time
Amount of Award:
Statutory maximum award of $3,000 for earning a score in the top 3 percent
Statutory maximum award of $1,000 for earning a score in the 4th and 5th percentiles
Award may vary depending on state funding each year
How to Apply:
There is no Bright Flight application to complete. The Missouri Department of Higher Education will receive your ACT or SAT composite score(s), along with approved Missouri college or university choices, from your ACT or SAT assessment records. It takes approximately six to eight weeks after each national test date for the MDHE to receive assessment information. For more information, visit Bright Flight Program.
